At this time of the year, there are many different types of kids Easter activities that children can enjoy. There are crafts, games, puzzles cooking activities and math activities that will keep the kids happy and busy.

One of the common kids Easter activities is decorating eggs, but there are also other crafts that are ideal for this time of year.

Easter Cards

Provide the kids with markers, colored paper, glitter, glue and stamps and they can make Easter cards to give to friends or family. To make an interesting card, try shaping the card like and egg or a bunny.

Easter Wreaths

A wonderful Easter craft activity is to create wreaths. These can be made on a paper plate with a ring cut out of the center. First cover the wreath with straw or paint it silver or gold. Next decorate it with flowers, fluffy toy chickens, eggs, ribbons or cutouts of colored egg shapes that have been decorated. Add a ribbon to the top to hang it from and you have your own unique wreath.

Easter Bingo

There are lots of different types of games that are suitable for Easter. Create an Easter version of bingo by using Easter words or pictures. This is one of the kids Easter activities that is ideal as a classroom activity.

Easter Games

The kids can also make their own Easter board games with construction card and markers. These can then be decorated with stickers, glitter or pictures. Once they are finished the kids can enjoy playing their game.

Easter Relays

If you are looking for more active kids Easter activities, you might like to try relays, Easter themed races or egg hunts. A egg and spoon race is ideal for Easter and can also be held as a relay.

Easter Bowling

Another interesting Easter game is Easter bowling. Give each child a different colored egg. It can be either a a foil wrapped Easter egg or a dyed, hardboiled egg. Roll a plain, white egg across the floor or the ground. The kids thentake turns at rolling their eggs as close as possible to the plain egg. The person whose egg is closest is the winner.

Easter Cooking

Another fun kids Easter activity is to have the children make chocolates. Kids love making and eating, Rocky Road. Firstly melt the chocolate. Then add marshmallows and small jelly candies. This can be spooned out in large chunks or set in the bowl and then refrigerated. It will take a little while to set in the refrigerator if it is set in the bowl. If it is set in the bowl, turn it out in a large lump then cut it into pieces. It is best for an adult to do the cutting.

Which kids Easter activities will your kids enjoy this Easter?

Has your classroom environment turned from serene and peaceful to jungle fever? Are you out of control and at the end of your rope? All teachers find themselves out of control and unsure what to do next from time to time, even those who have been teaching for dozens of years. This can happen at any grade level, including the elementary classroom environment. Managing the elementary classroom can be daunting, and requires tons of energy and mounds of patience – not to mention better-than-average organizational skills. The classroom that is organized and filled with students who listen to and respect their teacher is a classroom that can almost run itself. Getting there (to this well-managed utopia) is an uphill journey that definitely has its rewards. Let’s look at the fundamentals of elementary classroom management.

Getting Organized

Organization is the number one key to a classroom that runs like a well-oiled machine. Files, forms and supplies are easier to find when labeled, and you definitely want a system that allows you to identify and locate records for your students, forms and more. By day one’s end, you should have a chart for seating that will allow you to identify your students easily. Having your lesson plans done up well in advance will allow you to plan each day more effectively. Keeping a calendar on your desk (the big kind with lots of room for writing) will keep you on task. Invest in some hanging files for your drawers, and keep a folder for everything. Some teachers have a plastic storage tote for each “unit” that they work on, and everything goes back into the labeled tote at the unit’s end, ready for next year. Find ways to get your “stuff” and your students organized and you’ll be on your way towards a classroom that you’re in control of.

Establishing Policies and Rules

What is a world without rules? Every “society”, including your classroom, must have an established set of policies and rules to go by. Absent all rules, chaos and disorder will ensue. Make sure that you establish your classroom rules and policies from the beginning of the academic year and follow through with them. Don’t get too complex, especially for younger kids, but have a few (less than five for grades three and lower) and as many as ten (for grades four and up) rules that are easy to understand and remember. Just because you have understandable rules, however, does not mean that all students will actually understand them. Begin your school year with an orientation session for the rules, and make sure that everyone does in fact know what you mean. You might even consider a short “quiz” to confirm that they know the rules. But more important than having rules in place is showing your students that you mean business. For example, explain to them that you expect them to respect you and each other, that they must complete their homework assignments, bring their library books back to school, etc., and when they do not, make sure that a fitting punishment is administered immediately and consistently. Also be sure to praise and reward students when they follow the rules consistently.

The chore of managing the elementary classroom can certainly be stressful, but with organization of yourself, your “stuff” and your students, and by abiding by set-in-stone classroom rules, it can be done much easier!

Students are tested every year in order to verify their improvement and knowledge in various subjects. The intention of testing is not only to measure a student’s progress but also to gauge the effectiveness of the education system per school. According to Bison Educational Systems, there are programs providing support and resources not only to teachers but also to students at all levels. The goal of these programs is to make the process more efficient for educators and provide them with tremendous resources for the highest level of on-line educational support when it comes to preparing students for state testing. The following are some tips on how to prepare for state proficiency testing.

1. It is important to discuss the types of tests students will take for advancement. Some states only test reading and math, and some test a wide range of subjects. Ask what particular subjects will need to be studied.

2. Understand the purpose and method of the testing by reading any resource material and notes available.

3. Execute practice tests; especially in those areas instructors express the need for improvement. Practice proficiency tests are available and easily customizable at Bison Educational Systems ( http://www.bisoned.com )Customize each practice test by state, grade and subject. This allows you to specifically target specific subjects and questions and also allows for you to pin point what areas your student may need more help in.

4. Review the results of the practice test. Develop specific learning exercises for areas that have problematic scores, then, have students re-take the practice test to see what improvements have been made. Repeat this process if necessary.

The purpose of preparation is not to make the student feel inadequate but to help them get the practice and preparation they need to pass all areas of state testing.

About the Author

Bison Educational Systems has made a website database full of questions similar to those on state tests for students and teachers to use as a resource when preparing for state testing.

Alice Waters, a renown celebrity chef, made a visit to Sacramento’s Schools in California to push the schools to go green and serve locally grown food in their schools. This would stimulate Sacramento’s economy by having the schools district’s purchase food and supplies from Sacramento’s farmers markets. They are also in the talks of implementing edible gardens into each school.

The nations elementary schools are known to serve the lowest health food out of all schools. High schools have a better selection of food, but still a huge majority of what schools are offering is junk food. Schools are cheap! They care more about the sports teams, look of the school and events then the way the students are eating. How does this help a student succeed in class and prepare for their life? This only starts bad eating habits at a young age and is the recipe for health issues later in life.

By serving locally grown food and organic food in the school system not only will it give the local economy a boost but it will help students. Students need good nutrition to do well in school. How are they going to be able to focus if they are loaded up on sugar or ate something with so much fat that they are lethargic? A student’s brain needs “brain food” something healthy that will keep them going all day and keep them feeling good.

Edible Gardens are a new system that many schools are starting to have. They are creating programs designed to teach kids how to grow different foods and then using some of the information they gather in their science classes. They are growing food at schools and using it in the cafeteria for the kids to eat. Fresh fruit and vegetables are giving kids a better taste palate and teaching them better eating habits. If all schools started to have “Edible Gardens” and buying locally produced organic foods, the children will gain important health benefits as well as create life long healthy eating habits.

This slow food instead of fast food movement is becoming very important. Today’s lifestyle demands things fast; fast information, fast transportation and fast food. People are now catching on to the fact that fast food isn’t “good food.” So many health problems are a result of our eating habits. To be able to start kids out with the knowledge of these health problems and the resources to be able to change them, they will have a healthy life and succeed in school because of their energy and motivation coming from the healthy lifestyle they are living.

If all schools were to buy local foods, grow edible gardens, and serve healthy food in the cafeterias the students will prosper. The schools will see an improvement in test scores, less tardiness, less absences and more motivation from the students. Health is so important that it affects every aspect of your life. By teaching our children and students how to live healthy, we are giving them the best chance at having a successful educational experience and life.

All children are uniquely gifted–mentally, physically and spiritually. Unfortunately, education is presented in a ‘one size fits all’ package.
The best learning opportunity takes place in a setting where each child is well known and every child’s individual process within a school year can be measured and celebrated. At its best, education inspires and fosters the child to learn at the speed of their personal potential.
As part of the educational experience, real learning also demands that students be challenged to live up to their potentials as students, citizens and as leaders of the future.

To ensure that your child is receiving the education she/he needs:

o Determine how individual learning gains within the school system is measured. Ensure that your child’s school can demonstrate exactly where your child began the year and how much academic progress she/he makes within the school year.

o Determine if a personalized education plan is available to maximize your child’s learning potential.

o Determine if the core curriculum ensures your child is receiving a comprehensive education.

o Determine if core curriculum includes subjects such as: music, art and physical education.

o Determine if your child will have access to both gifted classes and extra support. Having the flexibility of gifted classes will ensure that your child can acquire greater knowledge in areas she/he excels in without losing extra individualized attention in subjects where your child needs help.

o Determine how character education is incorporated into the learning experience/ environment.

Creating today’s children into tomorrow’s leaders requires educating the whole child–a synthesis of head and heart knowledge. Your child deserves this level of comprehensive education. Expect and accept nothing less.

In the competition for Angstiest Dane, Prince Hamlet ranks way up there alongside Kierkegaard in the “off the charts” division, giving “The Tragedy of Hamlet” a reputation for being exhausting and unapproachable. Hamlet spends four of the play’s five acts in an ever-deepening existential funk. And rightly so, considering the fact that a) his dad died two months ago, b) his girlfriend won’t talk to him, c) his mom has already remarried, d) his new “dad” was once his uncle, meaning mom is bumping uglies with her own brother-in-law, e) stepdad also happens to be the guy who killed dad, and of course, the small matter of f) the court *literally* conspiring against Hamlet.

In light of these and other circumstances, the fact that the play still manages to make us laugh out loud is pretty remarkable. That is, when we don’t get so caught up in the drama that we overlook the mind games, double/triple entendres, and overall absurdity characteristic of lesser-known Hamlet quotes. Moody though he may be, Hamlet is not without a sense of humor – and Shakespeare even less so. Take, for example, the argument between King Claudius and Hamlet after Hamlet murders Polonius.

King: Now, Hamlet, where’s Polonius?
(Where’s the corpse, you brat?)

Hamlet: At supper.
(Wouldn’t you like to know?)

King: At supper! Where?
(Watch it, kid!)

Hamlet: Not where he eats, but where he is eaten…
(Guess how many worms he’s feeding!)

King: Alas, alas!
(The guy was an idiot, but what can you do?)

Hamlet: A man may fish with the worm that hath eat of a king, and eat of the fish that hath fed of that worm.
(King becomes worm food, worm becomes fish food, fish becomes fisherman food. Ergo, fisherman chows down on royalty. Circle of life, sucker.)

King: What dost thou mean by this?
(WTF?)

Hamlet: Nothing but to show you how a king may go a progress through the guts of a beggar.
(Nuthin, just wondering if you’ve guessed what’ll happen *after* you pass through a beggar’s guts.)

King: Where is Polonius?
(This is your last chance.)

Hamlet: In heaven: send thither to see: if your messenger find him not there, seek him i’ the other place yourself.
(Go to hell!)

Or what about the passive-aggressive exchange between Hamlet and Ophelia during the play (within the play). Keep in mind that this all happens publicly.

Hamlet: Lady, shall I lie in your lap?
(How’s about I get between your legs?)

Ophelia: No, my lord.
(No, ya d-bag.)

Hamlet: I mean, my head upon your lap?
(All I wanted was to rest my head on your knees!)

Ophelia: Ay, my lord.
(Uh huh.)

Hamlet: Do you think I meant country matters?
(Psh, you thought I meant sex! Just because the first syllable of “country” happens to rhyme with…)

Ophelia: I think nothing, my lord.
(I’m not playing this game anymore.)

Hamlet: That’s a fair thought to lie between maids’ legs.
(Did you really just say “nothing”? Because that’s slang for female genitalia.)

Ophelia: What is, my lord?
(What are you, twelve?!)

Hamlet: Nothing.
(You heard me, sweetcheeks.)

The fact that Hamlet is ten times smarter than everyone else – not to mention pretending to be crazy so that he can say whatever he wants – makes for a truly amusing read, even amidst all the weeping, brooding, and putting-off-regicide-ing.

In small groups, participants identified what they considered to be the most important promising practices in undergraduate STEM education.
The following list emerged from the small-group reports:

1. Teaching epistemology explicitly and coherently.

2. Using formative assessment techniques and feedback loops to change practice.

3. Providing professional development in pedagogy, particularly for graduate students.

4. Allowing students to “do” science, such as learning in labs and problem solving.

5. Providing structured group learning experiences.

6. Ensuring that institutions are focused on learning outcomes.

7. Mapping course sequences to create a coherent learning experience for students.

8. Promoting active, engaged learning.

9. Developing learning objectives and aligning assessments with those objectives.

10. Encouraging participants.

11. Providing undergraduate research experiences.

To close the workshop, steering committee members reflected on the main themes that were covered throughout the day. Susan Singer focused on the question of evidence and observed that the workshop addressed multiple levels of evidence. Explaining that assessment and evidence are not synonymous, she pointed out that classroom assessment to inform teaching generates one type of evidence that workshop participants discussed. Another type of evidence is affective change, and she observed that some people gather evidence to convince their colleagues to change their practice. Singer said the workshop clearly showed that scholars in some disciplines have given careful thought to the meaning of evidence and have begun to gather it to build a general knowledge base.

Melvin George began his reflections by asking, “Why do we need any evidence at all?” He noted that one reason for gathering evidence is to discover what works in science education, but he said that evidence alone does not cause faculty members to change their behavior. Suggesting that the problem might lie with ineffectual theories of change rather than a lack of evidence, George proposed that it might be more productive to direct more attention and resources to making change happen.

David (University of Montana) observed that the participants discussed a continuum of promising practices ranging from individual classroom activities to courses to curricula to departments to institutional transformation. Discussing the day’s themes, David described a desire to identify promising practices that promote mastery of content and skills while addressing barriers to learning, and he recalled discussions about the difficulty of articulating and assessing some of those skills. He identified the use of technology as a promising practice that cuts across disciplines and suggested a need to examine the cognitive underpinnings of how people learn in each domain. David called for better alignment of learning goals, teaching and learning activities, and assessment tools.

William Wood reflected on the issue of domain-specific versus generic best practices. He noted that many of the practices discussed during the workshop seem universally applicable across disciplines and even across different levels, such as the classroom, department, and institution as a whole. He also suggested that university faculty might apply some of these principles when encouraging their colleagues to transform their teaching practice. Rather than transmitting the evidence in a didactic manner and expecting colleagues to change, Wood proposed taking a more constructivist approach to build their understanding of promising practices.

From all the things above, maybe you have learned some knowledge of this subject. But today we woul like to tell you more things like clubwear.
